Who We Are
Please be patient while photos load. Thanks.
Michael - Knute - Paul - Steve
Now that you see us, come and hear us!
We are a ten voice a cappella group based in Boulder; we had our
beginning in the summer of 1992 when four community chorus members got
together to sing madrigals. Since then, our members have enjoyed
singing an eclectic repertoire including jazz, pop, sacred, modern and
ethnic music. Our music-making is based on our love of beautiful music,
our love for each
other and the camaraderie we share. We sing music that is meaningful to
us, and we hope it brings joy to our audiences!
We perform for various functions locally, as well as performing
concerts throughout the year. If you have a special occasion you'd like
to bring some music to, contact us, we'd love to sing for you!
We are still Under Construction, so please be patient while our information is added.

Christina
|
 Christina
has been leading Harmonia for the past few years as artistic director.
"Leading this many people has been a challenging and wonderful stretch
for me. It's given me an appreciation for different learning styles and
personalities, and how to channel every member's energy into making
beautiful music."
Christina loves all kinds of music, and especially enjoys harmonically
challenging, quirky music, such as the Early American genre. "Those
pieces are real historical treasures; they provide a glimpse into the
mind of early America. Someday I'd like to do a whole concert of
them!"

Paul
|
When Paul was eight years old, he dreampt that he joined the cub scouts at a friend's house, walked into their back yard, and found himself and the other scouts transformed into an infantry unit in the Vietnam war.
Knute says of Paul, "Paul likes to sing just about anything - low
notes, medium notes, and high notes - he has a four octave range!"

Sarah
|
Sarah has been singing in choirs since she was 7. She has been a member of Harmonia for 12 years, singing alto primarily, although she occasionally pinch-hits for soprano and tenor parts. Sarah loves singing in a small group, where it really matters whether you show up and know your part. Her favorite music is polyphonic, with as many independent parts as possible.

Knute
|
Knute's Scandinavian heritage makes him too shy to talk about himself. Paul says of Knute, "Knute lives to sing with Paul (and the rest). He loves the people in Harmonia. Knute basically likes to sing all kinds of music - he especially likes low notes. And of course, he has a four octave range."

Marilla
|
Marilla sang as a child growing up in northern Sweden. She ventured to America, married and then drove a VW bus around the world. Travel, work, skiing, dance and college took over. After a 30-year hiatus she returned to singing and was instrumental in starting Harmonia 12 years ago. She recently gave her first solo concert, perfoming music ranging from Handel to jazz. "I love the juman voice and nothing lifts my spirits more than being surrounded by beautiful voices in harmony." Marilla is a psychotherapist in Boulder.

Michael
|
Michael recently returned to Harmonia after singing with the group for awhile in the last century. An outstanding tenor and an all-around great guy, Michael helps keep the group focused and motivated. He likes to ride his bike and survive brushes with the great beyond.

Tina
|
Tina says, "Singing in a small ensemble nurtures my creative need
to be part of something larger than myself.
Plus, it allows my inner actress to come out!
I've been singing on and off since my kindergarten solo debut
(singing a verse of 'Silent Night' in Norwegian at the Christmas pageant).
I love our diverse repertoire and the intimacy of singing in a small group.
I also love the camaraderie, including gourmet chocolate,
good red wine and hot tubbing.
Watch out, we may soon change our name to 'Bare naked harmonies!'"

Steve
|
Steve is the newby to Harmonia, joining in 2004.
He describes himself as "a lost voice returning to the acapella fold",
after a 20 year hiatus attending to graduate school,
career and his three talented children.
"I took my daughter Kate to my college acapella group reunion and,
on seeing me sing 'I Get Around' with my college mates,
Kate's enthusiastic support (and surprise) at her father's passion convinced me to get back into singing."
Steve loves the challenge and the sound of good harmony -- with wine and chocolate!
